Enrolment Slots

A month before your enrolment you will receive information on what you need to do in order to complete the enrolment process. This information will be sent to you via email, and will include instructions and guidance on how to complete the initial online enrolment process, as well as links to our enrolment and induction pages of our website, which will provide you with everything that you need to get you ready to join us in September!

As part of the enrolment process, you will also be allocated an enrolment slot. Your enrolment slot will be at a specific date and time and is allocated in line with any induction sessions that may be scheduled within your enrolment week. We strongly recommend that you attend your allocated enrolment slot at the time allocated to you to ensure that you are able to attend your induction.

Completing Your Enrolment Form

Before you come to see us on campus to formally enrol, it is essential that you complete the online enrolment process. We will be sending you a link on how to access this in due course. Online enrolment is used to collect and confirm the information we need from you in order to enrol onto your course. Some of the information has been taken from your application, so please double-check this information to ensure that it is still correct.

  • We would recommend completing your enrolment form on a desktop or laptop rather than on a mobile phone or tablet.
  • Online enrolment MUST be completed at least 48 hours before your designated enrolment slot. This is to ensure that you can collect your student ID card when you come to enrol.

Meeting your course conditions

MicrosoftTeams-image-348

Now that you have made us your firm choice university, there are a few things that we need you to complete in order to meet the conditions of your offer with us.

If you attended an online interview day at BGU, we will have already sent you further information about these things in our ‘What Happens Next?’ talk, so we hope that none of this information is unexpected.

Identification Checks and Right to Study

As part of your conditions of offer with BGU and to ensure that you are able to enrol onto your course in September, you will need to show evidence of your identity and immigration status so that the University can confirm your right to study in the UK. The documents you will need to evidence will depend on your immigration and fee status.

We will shortly be sending an email which contains a ‘Identity Check and Right to Study Guide’ which will provide you with information as to which identity documents and/or UK immigration documents we require.

GCSEs and Equivalency

If you do not have a GCSE in English, Maths or Science at a grade 4/C or above, and require this for your course, more information about GCSE equivalency testing can be found below.

DBS checks and Health and Physical Capacity to Teach

As you will be in placement in school throughout your course, you are required to obtain an enhanced DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) check. The following undergraduate courses require a DBS check as a condition of your enrolment at BGU:

  • Education Studies
  • Early Childhood Studies
  • Special Educational Needs, Disability and Inclusion
  • Health and Social Care
  • Primary Education with QTS
  • Primary Teaching Studies with QTS

You will need to complete a DBS check if any of your joint degree subjects are listed above (for example, Education Studies and English).

To complete this check, we use an external provider, First Advantage (formally known as GBG Online Disclosures). You will be required to complete an online form and take your chosen documents to a Post Office to be verified (please check that your local Post Office offers a verification service before making any travel arrangements). You will need to pay for the DBS check. Where DBS checks are returned as ‘clear’ we do not need to see a copy of your physical DBS certificate as we can access this information online.

When you accepted your offer, you should have received an email from Admissions containing information on how to complete your DBS check through First Advantage. This email will also contain a PIN and Secret Word that you will need to register on the First Advantage website. Please be mindful that we can only accept DBS checks completed through First Advantage Online Disclosures and we will not accept a check from another provider. If you cannot find the email, please contact the Admission Team at admissions@bishopg.ac.uk or call us on 01522 583648.

If you already have an enhanced DBS check and are part of the update service (you will pay a £13 subscription fee for this), we can potentially use this DBS to meet the course requirements. If you believe that you are part of the update service, please click here to download the ‘DBS Update Authorisation Form.

Once completed, please return this via email to the Admissions Team along with a scanned copy of both sides of your original DBS certificate and a form of photo ID. This is so that we can make sure your DBS certificate is for the correct workforce for your course.

If your permanent address is not in the UK or you have lived in the UK for less than 5 years you must also provide a Police Report of Good Conduct or Good Code of Conduct Certificate from your Home country.

Health and Physical Capacity to Teach

For teacher training courses the Department for Education requires a health form that states that you have the ‘Health and Physical Capacity to Teach’ so that we can send you into school on placement. To provide the data that BGU will need to assess your health and physical capacity to teach, you will need to complete an online questionnaire, which the Admissions Team will send to you via email once you selected BGU as your firm choice.

If you cannot find the email, please contact the Admission Team at admissions@bishopg.ac.uk or call us on 01522 583648.

Please be aware that, if further information following completion of the form is required, then BGU’s partner, Lincoln County Hospital, will contact you to request this additional information. If no further information is required, then Lincoln Hospital will make an overall assessment on your health and physical capacity to teach. Please note that you will not receive a confirmation email once your health form has been processed. If you do not hear from either Admissions or Lincoln County Hospital, please assume that this condition is met.

We hope you find all of this information useful, and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us via email at admissions@bishopg.ac.uk
