Here at BGU, we are passionate about reading and this is reflected in the work of our three Reading for Pleasure (RfP) ambassadors.
Supported by training through the Open University and UK Literacy Association, the RfP ambassadors are all students on our BA Primary Education with QTS undergraduate course.
Their role is to support all students in developing a love of reading and, in particular a good knowledge of the best children's books.
Ainee Larkin, Mia Thornley and Abbie Ramsdale have developed an Instagram account - @bgureading4pleasure where they share book recommendations, reading corner inspiration and links to useful tools.
To thank their followers they decided to launch a giveaway! When they reached 200 followers, they did a random draw and gave away two tote bags full of chocolate and a range of children's books.
The winners were Rose, a first year BAPE student and Grace, a second year BAPE. The prizes were gratefully received by Rose and Grace and the books will be a useful start to their children's book collections as they begin their careers as Reading Teachers.
Abbie Ramsdale said: "Delivering the prizes was incredible and very rewarding!"
Emma Rogers, Senior Lecturer in Primary Education, who supports the RfP ambassadors said: "I'm so proud of the work that Ainee, Abbie and Mia do. Their passion for reading and sharing that love of reading with students and children is wonderful.
“Giving up their time to support and encourage other students in an already very busy academic year is admirable. I know that their work will impact the teaching careers of our students and improve the lives of the 100s of children they teach."
