On Thursday 12th June, Mayor Dame Andrea Jenkyns and Deputy Mayor Ingrid Sheard visited campus, for the opportunity to learn more about the University.
The purpose of their visit was to find out more the work of our staff and the achievements of our students, alongside exploring the historic, modern and hidden parts of campus; supported by the backdrop of our upcoming five year strategy and name change to Lincoln Bishop University.
The Mayor and Deputy Mayor were joined by the University’s Vice Chancellor, Professor Andrew Gower, Director of Business and Community Engagement, Allison Webb, and Associate Professor and Programme Leader for Archaeology & Heritage and Military History, Derwin Gregory.
After an initial meeting and photo opportunity outside the Robert Hardy Building, the tour of the campus began.
With a visit to our specialist Archaeology Lab on route, Andrea and Ingrid were introduced to some 14th century artefacts, as well as our professional equipment that is available for businesses and members of the local community to hire.
The visit and subsequent tour proved a striking opportunity to illustrate examples of how our social purpose is being met, and creating positive change within our communities continues to be of the upmost importance.
Vice Chancellor Professor Andrew Gower said: “We were delighted to welcome the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Greater Lincolnshire to the University.
“The visit was a great opportunity to showcase the work of the University, including the specialist work underway in our Archaeology Lab, and the ways in which we prepare our students for their future careers.
“After September, when we are Lincoln Bishop University, we will continue our commitment to higher skills in full support of economic growth for Greater Lincolnshire.”
Mayor of Greater Lincolnshire, Dame Andrea Jenkyns, said: “Lincoln is lucky to have such an excellent facility in the city. In my first two months as Mayor, I’ve made a number of visits to colleges and universities across Lincolnshire and have been impressed at how they are working with employers to make sure we have the courses needed for local jobs.
“This was certainly the case at Bishop Grosseteste University (soon to be known as Lincoln Bishop University) and will continue to be a real focus for me. I want to make sure that people in Lincolnshire have the skills employers need – from archaeology to agri-food and everything in between!"
