On Monday 18th November, the Wales Association of Standing Advisory Councils on Religious Education released a short film on Religion, Values and Ethics.

The purpose of the film is to promote the value of the subject matter within the new curriculum for Wales.

The Revd Dr Tania ap Siôn has held the position of Reader of Religions, Humanities and Education at the university since she joined BGU in 2018.

Dr Tania and Co-director of the St Giles’ Centre in Wrexham, Libby Jones, were both closely involved in the development and scripting of the film.

The script talks directly to young people, schools, parents, guardians and those with an interest in the topic about how Religion, Values and Ethics is a part of everyday life.

Awen, the narrator of the film, said: “Exploring big questions helps us to think critically about our world and the people in it.

“At the same time, we can develop our own beliefs and values and be prepared for life and work in this fast-changing and diverse world.”

Revd Dr Tania ap Siôn provided a comment on her involvement in the project: “It’s been inspirational working with colleagues to produce this film, and we are very pleased that initial reactions have been so positive!

“Wales is currently rolling out an exciting new ‘Curriculum for Wales’ for children aged 3 to 16 years old, and we want to advertise the unique and important contribution made by Religion, Values and Ethics within it.

“This film is part of a whole range of resources being made available to support schools and settings in Wales.”

Within the higher education setting of BGU, both our Theology, Philosophy and Ethics and Theology and Religious Studies courses explore the value of the subject, similarly to this short film.
