The BA (Hons) Professional Practice in Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND) is a one year distance learning top-up programme delivered directly by BGU for Foundation Degree graduates. BGU's range of degree courses in SEND includes a Foundation Degree for people already working in the sector. This is currently offered at Grantham College and Boston College, who work in partnership with BGU.

The new programme will enable Foundation Degree graduates to top-up their studies and gain BA (Hons) Professional Practice in Special Educational Needs and Disability in just one year of online study. As a work-based degree, this programme’s strength is its ability to connect students’ practical experience with theoretical knowledge and understanding.

Students will learn from a team of highly qualified, specialist teachers who are experts in their field, without having to take time out of employment or travel away from the communities where they live and work. The programme does not require routine attendance at University with course delivery and study carried out online, allowing students to determine their own study times, according to their work schedule and other commitments.

Caroline Meredith, Academic Lead for Flexible and Distributed Learning at BGU, praised the opportunities on offer from the new programme:

“With its 160 year history of teacher training, BGU recognises the importance of inclusive learning and teaching, and the specialist knowledge and skills that practitioners need, in an increasingly diverse education sector.

The new programme draws together the subject expertise of the teaching team with the technical knowledge of CELT’s digital learning developers to create an exciting and engaging distance learning opportunity.”

Applications are now open to suitably experienced practitioners in the field of Special Educational Needs and Disability who have completed (or are about to complete) any relevant Foundation Degree. You can find more information on how to apply on our website or by contacting our Enquiries Team.

The Foundation Degree (FdA) Professional Practice in Special Educational Needs and Disability is currently offered at Grantham College and Boston College, validated by BGU. It allows practitioners to study and work at the same time, to increase their knowledge and understanding, and develop their skills in the workplace.
