Retired campus cat Johnty and current BGU mascot Gizmo have raised money for Lincoln Cat Care through purr-fect 2025 calendar!

Both of the feline friends are friendly faces to students, colleagues and members of the BGU community – providing a relaxing presence that supports students through their time at university.

Sold for £3.50 each, the calendar includes 12 photos of the mascots, taken on campus throughout the four seasons, by BGU IT Technician Ian Ferguson.

This is the third consecutive year that the sale of the calendar has taken place, after first launching in 2023. The 2025 calendar has raised the largest amount yet, with the final total currently standing at £770.

All proceeds are donated to local charity Lincoln Cat Care. Established in 2004 by a group of cat lovers, the charity relies on donations to rehome strays, cover vet bills, and provide emergency care to felines in need.

To signify the achievement, Liz Truss, Trustee for Lincoln Cat Care, was presented with a cheque by Ian, and Deputy Vice Chancellor Tom Dannatt.

Ian commented on the success of the calendar and the support received: “I am extremely pleased that with the help of Johnty and Gizmo, we have been able to raise such a fantastic amount!

“I would like to say a big thank you to Alan and Stacey in Reprographics for designing and printing the calendar, and to Catherine in Marketing for designing the promotional poster.

“Finally, an enormous thank you to everyone who has contributed to our donation to Lincoln Cat Care by purchasing a calendar. We still have some available! If you are interested in purchasing a calendar, please email johntyuniversitycat@gmail.com.”
