BGU Enquiries Team launch hotline to support you through Clearing
With Results Day next Thursday, everyone at Bishop Grosseteste University (BGU) hopes you get the results you need to get into your first choice university, allowing you to sit back, relax and get excited about starting your adventure. If you don’t get the results you require you may need to go through Clearing, which offers students who have not yet secured a place the opportunity to apply for ones that are still available. The Clearing process can seem daunting and stressful but the Enquiries Team at BGU are doing everything they can to ensure that process is smooth and hassle-free. Dedicated Phone Line Often one of the most comforting things when dealing with unexpected changes is being able to talk directly to someone (rather than filling out online forms or dealing answer machines). That is why from 8 am on the morning of Clearing until 10 pm, members of the Enquiries Team will be manning the phone lines to make sure you can quickly get the support you need. The Hotline number is (01522) 583698 and through it, you’ll not only be able to get all your Clearing questions answered, but you may also be able to sort a university place for yourself. WhatsApp Support If you’re nervous about phoning the Hotline is not the only way to contact BGU to get your Clearing questions answered. You can also directly talk to members of the Enquiries Team through WhatsApp on 07598142383. Just as with the Hotline you can ask any questions you want and may even be able to secure your place through it. Clearing Open Day If after Clearing you’re still not confident on where you want to study, or if you’ve decided BGU is the place for you, the University will be hosting an open day on Friday 17 August so you can experience BGU first hand. Lecturers will be available to give you a taste of what the courses have to offer and you’ll be to access all the facilities available at BGU including accommodation, gym and leisure spaces along with the impressively stocked Library and university archive. Your Opportunity to Help BGU Bring the History of Lincoln’s Female Footballers to Life
Staff and students at Bishop Grosseteste University (BGU) are excited to be working in partnership with the Lincoln Mystery Plays and the Lady Imps Supporters Association to shed a new light on the fascinating, and sometimes controversial, history of Women’s Football in Lincolnshire. With a legacy dating back over 100 years the Lincoln Ladies, or Lady Imps, are one of the Sport’s most enduring teams, gaining huge popularity during the Great War before an FA ban at the end of the conflict forced them to fight for their survival. As the nation marks the centenary of the end of The Great War, BGU and the Lincoln Mystery Plays Company will be curating an exhibition along with an original play ‘The World at Her Feet’ which they hope will not only bring the extraordinary stories of the trailblazing Lady Imps to light, but also inspire a new generation to follow in their footsteps. The exhibition, which follows BGU’s exploration of Women’s Voting Rights in the county, is to be held at Lincoln Central Library and will be open to the public from the 27th of September whilst ‘The World at Her Feet’ will be on show at the Drill Hall from the 11th of November. Together they will offer a unique viewpoint on a fascinating corner of local and sporting history and you now have the opportunity to be a part of it. The Research team at BGU, led by Dr Andrew Jackson, yesterday launched their appeal to local residents for any stories, photographs and memorabilia they might be willing to share with the exhibition. BGU Launch New Exhibition Exploring the History of Women’s Football
The Research Team at Bishop Grosseteste University (BGU) have launched a new exhibition at the Lincoln Central Library to explore and celebrate the history of women’s football. The exhibition promotes and celebrates women’s football in Britain from the early years up to today, including its presence in Lincoln and the wider county of Lincolnshire. With a legacy dating back over 100 years the Lincoln Ladies, or Lady Imps, are one of the Sport’s most enduring teams, gaining huge popularity during the Great War before an FA ban at the end of the conflict forced them to fight for their survival. Two stories are incorporated into the exhibition. The first is the history of the women’s game from the 1880s up to the First World War, in particular the highpoint during the conflict of 1914-18. The second story is that of the recent revival of the game, focusing on the successful run for the Lincoln City Ladies team that came to a controversial end in 2013. The exhibition has been produced to coincide with the performances of the Lincoln Mystery Plays latest production: ‘The World at Her Feet’. The play has been written to mark the centenary of the final year of the First World War. The script recognises the contribution of munitionette workers, some of whom formed football teams. Dr Andrew Jackson, Head of Research at BGU, described his excitement at what the joint endeavours of the exhibition and the play could achieve: “The 'World at Her Feet' will be a powerful play. It will resonate as a fitting end to the four centenary years of the First World War. The production will also feature in a year of anniversaries commemorating progress in the place and status of women, and their achievement of the right to vote. In addition, the performance will be set in a context of today, and a revival of the women's game of football at national and international levels.” It is hoped that the exhibition will not only bring the extraordinary stories of the trailblazing Lady Imps to light, but also inspire a new generation to follow in their footsteps. The exhibition also coincides with celebrations nationwide of women gaining the right to vote one hundred years ago. BGU has been running several activities throughout the year, including another special exhibition, to commemorate this historic event. BGU and UoL Academics Come Together to Celebrate the Legacy of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein
As part of the international celebration week for the 200th anniversary of Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, Sibylle Erle, Reader in English Literature at Bishop Grosseteste University (BGU), and colleagues from the University of Lincoln (UoL) will speak on the reception and critical actuality of Shelley's novel in 1818 and contemporary dramatic responses. The event will take place in the University of Lincoln Library and start at 6pm on 23 October 2018. It includes two talks; ‘Adaptions of Liveness in Theatrical Productions of Frankenstein’ led by Kelly Jones from UoL before 'It’s Alive!' is delivered by Sibylle. Following the talks attendees will be able to enjoy a showing of a silent movie production of Frankenstein from 1910 after which UoL’s Andy Jordan will close out the event with a round table discussion on ‘The Currency of Shelley’s Frankenstein Today’. The celebrations will then continue at BGU on the 31st of October as Sibylle will lead a public reading of Shelley’s novel in the BGU Chapel. BGU Touring Exhibition Arrives at the Stonebow Ahead of Centenary Event
Bishop Grosseteste University’s (BGU) ‘Votes for Women’ touring exhibition will be on public show at the historic Stonebow, Lincoln, on Thursday 13 December 2018, 10am to 3pm, courtesy of City of Lincoln Council. The exhibition, ‘Vote100: A Lincolnshire View of Women’s Suffrage', charts the story of the campaign for the vote, locally and nationally. The content also includes some new material on the strengthening of the role of women in local politics in Lincoln. The exhibition was first developed in partnership with Lincoln Central Library, and has since been on tour in locations in the city and in North Kesteven. The content has been designed by staff and recent students of BGU, together with the input of Lincoln Central Library staff and other partners and contributors. Dr Andrew Jackson, Historian and Head of Research at BGU, emphasised the significance of the exhibition: "It is a privilege and a symbolic opportunity to place our Vote100 exhibition in the historic centre of city politics on this important date. The campaign for the vote for women was a very long and hard-fought one, demanding great commitment and remarkable personal sacrifice. The story, which includes the role of women of the county, is a very inspiring one for present times" Sian Hope Johnson MA, recent BGU English Literature student, who has also been involved in the exhibition's curation added: "This year's celebrations of the centenary of Women's suffrage have been immense. To be able to add Lincolnshire’s women into the narrative has been an honour. The exhibition tells the story of the fight for Women's suffrage in Lincolnshire, but, for me, it tells of the struggle, determination and perseverance of women county wide. Vote100 Takes Over BBC Radio Lincolnshire for Centenary Celebrations
