Jack wanted to start a conversation to help remove the stigma surrounding mental health; while statistics show that 1 in 4 people struggle with a mental health condition, it is reported that 51% of people feel too embarrassed to speak about it.

So Jack set up on Lincoln High Street to offer a supportive ear to anyone who wanted to share and, after a quiet start, stories began to flood in.

People from all walks of life, including former Lincoln City footballer Nathan Arnold, stopped to share their experiences with him and Jack was delighted to see his mission having such a positive impact:

“The idea behind it was to give people that opportunity to speak about something which has become seen as a taboo subject wrongly.

“I figured that if other people can see someone standing up in public sharing their stories and struggles, then it would encourage them to realise that it is okay to speak so openly about it.

“We ended up on that day speaking to some amazing people who had previous struggles with their mental health, were currently battling with it or were even just trying to share their support.

“I think that this goes a long way to showing that as a collective, as people, when we come together we can have such an impact on the way our society is.”
