Dr Amy Webster
Amy joined BGU in the summer of 2020 as a Senior Lecturer in Education Studies after finishing her PhD at the University of Cambridge. She has a BA (Hons) in Education with Primary Qualified Teacher Status from Durham University and an MPhil in Education with distinction from Cambridge. She was also previously an Associate Lecturer at Anglia Ruskin University. Her doctoral project focused on the historical recovery and analysis of British series of children’s classics using digital humanities methods, particularly historical shifts in the titles included in series and how these classic works have been abridged and repackaged since the turn of the twentieth century. Amy is part of the Literature and Literacies (LiLi) Research and Knowledge Exchange Unit and is co-editor of The Four Corners, BGU’s newsletter on children’s literature. She teaches on the Education Studies undergraduate programme as well as the new MA in Children’s Literature and Literacies. She also supervises dissertations on the MA in Education. -

BGU present Students’ Union with grant for sports and societies
A grant for £5,000 has been awarded from Bishop Grosseteste University (BGU Lincoln) to the Students’ Union (SU) to support their clubs and societies. Clubs and societies can apply for funding to cover their running costs such as equipment, kits, travel, and enhance the experience for their members. The SU currently have sports teams for badminton, cheer , dance, men’s football, men’s and women’s rugby and netball, and four societies for creative writing, gaming, performing arts and psychology, although more societies can be adopted if enough interest is shown in running them. The cheque-giving ceremony was attended by Dr Rob Boast, representing BGU Lincoln, and Erin Bell, Kaylee Hempenstall, Michael O'Donoghue and Jacquie Hough from the Students’ Union. Dr Rob Boast, Pro Vice-Chancellor (Students), said: “I’m delighted to present the Student’s Union with £5,000 on behalf of the University to support their sports clubs and societies.” “The Students’ Union is run by the students, for students and the University recognises that they play an important role in enhancing the experience of those studying here, and I hope this grant allows SU clubs and societies to thrive.” Erin Bell, Students’ Union President, said: “Sports clubs and societies are a key part of the SU and provide a range of exciting events and opportunities for students, in addition to their course.” “Sports and societies provide a fun way for students to meet new people, learn or improve new skills and the chance to take part in physical team activities at all levels, from beginners to competition standards.” “This grant will allow our clubs and societies to expand their offering further and only enhances what they can provide to students. International Postgraduate Certificate in Education
The International Postgraduate Certificate in Education (iPGCE) is an online distance-learning programme tailored to those looking to gain a recognised qualification from a UK university with a long and distinguished history in education and teacher development. Studying for the iPGCE is fully online and designed for students (from anywhere in the world) who are already undertaking teaching work in international settings, or who wish to do so in the future. Upon successful completion of the iPGCE, students will also have developed the necessary skills and knowledge to pursue further studies, such as an education-related MA. -
Brewing Innovation: Roadshow Aims to Drive Business Success in Lincolnshire
In a bid to support innovation throughout Lincolnshire, businesses across the region can find out how to secure a Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP), funded by Innovate UK, during a three-day roadshow serving up free barista-style coffee and business advice. The roadshow is a collaboration between Bishop Grosseteste University (BGU) and the University of Lincoln, UK, and will see ‘The Very Cool Coffee Bus’ visit several locations across Lincolnshire this March. Visitors will be able to chat with professional teams from both universities, find out more about the benefits of a KTP and how to apply for one. KTPs aim to help businesses improve their competitiveness and productivity through the better use of knowledge, technology and skills within the UK knowledge base. They offer an opportunity to collaborate with an expert academic team from either university which will support the delivery of a particular business initiative. Contributions are determined by the size of the business and the sector it belongs to. Bishop Grosseteste University’s KTP lead Linette Wallace said: “Innovation is the lifeblood of any organisation. Knowledge Transfer Partnerships offer robust support and can help to embed the expertise needed to make this happen. “We’d love to hear from any business if they have an idea to grow or make transformational changes within their business but don’t have all the in-house expertise needed to develop it, as a KTP may be the perfect solution.” BGU recently secured its first Knowledge Transfer Partnership with Lincolnshire Community & Voluntary Service (LCVS). The partnership will be worth £162,063 over a two-year period, with UKRI Innovate contributing two thirds of the funding. Lincolnshire CVS is a local charity that is dedicated to empowering the voluntary sector and promote the health and wellbeing of the wider community. The collaboration aims to enable the organisation to develop new and existing services, promote new business opportunities and effectively communicate the charity’s impact to its wider audience. David Fannin, CEO at Lincolnshire CVS, said: “This collaboration with BGU will support our core business development and our ability to communicate impact and the value of empowered communities. “Better still, it will help LCVS to do what we do best: strengthening the conditions that enable stronger, inclusive communities and empowered people. PGCE Primary (Full Time)
This PGCE course prepares you to teach children in either the 3 to 7 age range or 5-11 age phase. It is a very practical course with around two thirds of the time spent on placement in schools or Early Years settings, and around one third spent engaging in partnership training with the university. This route provides you with the skills to teach your chosen age range, integrating theory and practice and combining study at either postgraduate or professional level alongside practical training to enable you to meet the Teachers’ Standards by the end of the course.
