The three-year Primary Education course at BGU is designed to allow you to study a vocational honours degree in Primary Education leading to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). It provides an integrated academic and professional preparation for teaching. Primary Teaching Studies with QTS
Are you a teaching assistant currently working in a primary school, or working in an equivalent educational setting? If you’ve recently completed a relevant Foundation Degree and are looking to pursue a career in primary teaching, then this course could be the perfect next step for you. The course is a stimulating and challenging degree at honours level, developing the qualities required in 21st century teachers. This course will be delivered via blended learning where students will be taught remotely for the equivalent of 1 day per week. Roughly one day each half term, students will attend campus for sessions, and the remainder of the taught content will be delivered through a mix of synchronous and asynchronous sessions to allow students flexibility. Some placements may take place in the school in which students are working as a TA. -

Assessment Only Route to QTS (Primary and Secondary)
This is an assessment only route to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), appropriate for very experienced graduates who have more than two years’ successful teaching experience in two or more schools, colleges or settings. Candidates will be able to demonstrate that they are already meeting the Teachers’ Standards, without further training, before the commencement of the Assessment Only process. -
Bishop Grosseteste University hosts fun educational afternoon for Lincoln school children
Around 150 reception-aged children recently visited Bishop Grosseteste University (BGU) for a fun-filled educational afternoon with first-year trainee teachers. The children, aged 4-5, came from four Lincoln schools - Minster Preparatory School, St. Giles Academy, Ermine Infant School, and Mount Street Infant School. The BA Primary Education students organised a range of activities as part of the enhanced provision day. The children participated in story time, various arts and crafts, outdoor games and a treasure hunt that took place across the campus. The trainee teachers demonstrated their initiative and adaptability by modifying activities based on the children's needs and interests. After the event, a representative from one school said, "All the children were engaged and enjoying the activities. Many of them commented on the way back as to how much they had enjoyed themselves, even yesterday a few of them were still talking about it. It was lovely to see the time and effort put into creating the activities." Another teacher commented, "The afternoon at BGU will have made such a difference to the children! Experiences like these are so beneficial to their development. "We were really impressed with the activities, the enthusiasm of the trainees, and how they interacted with the children. They helped them feel at ease but also garnered excitement and curiosity for the activities." The event was a huge success, providing a great opportunity for the trainee teachers to showcase their skills and creativity, and for the children to enjoy an afternoon of fun activities. -
Nishi Bremner
Nishi is a Senior Lecturer in Primary & Early Years Initial Teacher Education and ITaP Coordinator at Bishop Grosseteste University, having joined the institution in September 2024. She brings over 25 years of successful teaching experience across diverse educational settings, including inner city schools in London, village schools, and international schools in Spain, before settling in Lincolnshire in 2011.Beginning her career after completing a PGCE in London, Nishi progressed through various teaching roles and year groups, ultimately serving as Deputy Head Teacher and Head of Academy at a school in a deprived area of Lincolnshire. Her extensive classroom experience provides a strong foundation for her current role in teacher education.Coaching and mentoring are central to Nishi's professional passion. She served as ECT Lead for 10 years, successfully supporting and mentoring Early Career Teachers in school settings. This commitment to developing new educators led to collaborative work with the EoETTC and SCITT programmes as a School Based Mentor and Quality Assurance Mentor. Her expertise in clinical practice, coaching and mentoring aligns seamlessly with her ITaP coordinator responsibilities.Nishi has also contributed to academic scholarship, co-authoring a chapter on supporting vulnerable children in the Early Years alongside BGU colleagues. Her areas of specialism include EYFS, Mathematics, Assessment and Science, with interests in English as an Additional Language (EAL) and supporting children and families from disadvantaged backgrounds.Through her experience and ongoing commitment to mentoring trainees, Nishi continues to champion the development of high-quality teaching practice and the support of newly qualified educators entering the profession. -
