Dr Rob Boast
Pro Vice-Chancellor (Students) Rob joined the senior management team at BGU in November 2017, firstly in the role of Executive Dean for Learning, Teaching and Student Engagement, and now as Pro Vice-Chancellor (Students). Rob leads on all aspects of the academic learning, teaching and student experience, both on-campus and also through collaborative arrangements with educational and business partners. His focus is on supporting academic staff to deliver inspirational teaching, an excellent student learning experience and meaningful student engagement. Through his role he has direct oversight of the Centre for Enhancement in Learning and Teaching, the Library, Student Advice, UK and International Partnerships. Prior to joining BGU, Rob worked at Staffordshire University, where he was most recently Associate Dean for Learning and Teaching. Rob is recognised as an innovator in higher education practice. He has a particular specialism in problem-based learning and practical scholarship, personalised learner support and innovative course development across a range of disciplines. A Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, he has also championed the introduction of technology-enhanced learning and creation of new employer engagement and student employability opportunities. -
Revd Canon Prof Peter Neil
Vice Chancellor Rev Canon Professor Peter Neil began professional life as a teacher of French and German in Scotland, having trained at Jordanhill College of Education and Glasgow University. He entered Higher Education in 1991 when he was appointed to a post in Queen’s University, Belfast. There he held various posts including director of the Northern Ireland Centre for Language Teaching and Research, director of the PGCE course and Assistant Head of the School of Education. During that time he completed a PhD in Education, looking at the use of German in the classroom by secondary school teachers. Following that he began studying theology at Union Theological College. He then took up post as Professor and Director of the School of Education and Lifelong Learning at Aberystwyth University. He returned to his native Scotland in 2009 when he was appointed Head of Education and, latterly, interim Executive Dean of the Faculty of Education, Health and Social Sciences at the University of the West of Scotland. He studied theology at Cardiff University from 2006 and trained for the Anglican priesthood at St Michael’s College, Llandaff, Cardiff. He was ordained in the Church in Wales in St David’s Cathedral in 2008 and 2009. He holds the Bishop’s General Preaching Licence for the Diocese of Lincoln. His main research interests in the past were language education and he is currently engaged in a study of lay theological education in the context of the DMin course at St Mary’s and St Giles’ Centre, Wales, validated by the University of Wales. He is honorary visiting professor at Glyndŵr University in Wrexham. He took up post as Vice Chancellor at Bishop Grosseteste in 2013. -
Matriculation 2022
The Matriculation Ceremony has now established itself as a tradition at BGU and is an annual feature on the University’s calendar, serving as an opportunity to officially welcome newly enrolled students into the BGU family -
Audit Committee
Our Audit Committee advises about reports from internal and external auditors and related matters. -
Finance, Employment & General Purposes Committee
Our Finance, Employment & General Purposes Committee advises the Council Members on such employment and financial matters as the Council may remit to it. -
Remuneration Committee
Our Remuneration Committee advises the University Council about the remuneration and terms and conditions of employment of senior staff. -
Governance and Nominations Committee
Our Governance and Nominations Committee advises the University Council about the appointment of co-opted members and membership of committees. It also manages the on going review of Council effectiveness. -
