Jean Wood

Jean Wood is a Senior Lecturer in Teacher Development specifically in Modern Languages. After a first degree in French (with Italian) from the University of Sheffield, Jean trained as a modern foreign languages teacher at the University of York. Jean taught French, as well as some German and Italian, for 27 years in schools in the local area. She joined BGU as a Visiting Tutor in 2016.

During her teaching career Jean has been a Head of Modern Languages and an ITT Co-ordinator, as well as being a visiting tutor for the University of Hull’s ITT programme. Jean has considerable experience in developments in pedagogy, promoting languages and motivating pupils to continue with languages. She has organised and led many foreign trips, including work experience overseas and has set up class links through eTwinning.

Jean primarily teaches on the secondary PGCE course, focusing on MFL and also delivering sessions looking at the uses of new technology in the classroom. She also contributes to the BA English Language & Teaching

As a tutor Jean is particularly interested in passing on the practical knowledge she has about language teaching. Since joining BGU Jean has also added Spanish to her language skills which enables her to support the increasing numbers of trainees wishing to teach Spanish.
